The Mustang is a glorious achievement. Flawlessly directed, photographed, and edited. This is Laure de Clermont-Tonnere first film and she’s mastered the cinema vocabulary magnificently. The excellent sound design along with a haunting score make this a must see 2019 release. Bruce Dern is super. But the revelation is  Matthias Schoenaerts. As an angry prisoner that forms a relationship with a horse, he rivets you to the screen with an emotional resonance that is other worldly. A scene where his daughter visits him will leave you panting.
