This poetically burning film would make James Baldwin proud. Barry Jenkins proves that Moonlight wasn’t a fluke. This masterpiece of editing, acting, writing, cinematography and direction should serve as a masterclass of filmmaking. The cast excels in bringing the elegant prose of James Baldwin to life. I was transfixed by this story of love and race. There isn’t a dishonest moment in this movie. The family dynamics are gorgeous and tragically resonate with us. The recreation of Harlem in the 1970’s is stunning. One of the best films of 2018 .
