At Eternity’s Gate was torturous. This slow paced frustratingly plotless film with little dialogue felt like eternity. Willem Dafoe looks like Vincent Van Gogh but his performance feels forced. The director Julian Schnabel wants us to get into the head of the painter. The interior approach doesn’t work and leaves the viewer hopelessly unengaged. This dreary arthouse film might appeal to art snobs, painters, and academy members looking to honor Willem Dafoe.
