Joan Ryan took Vitello’s Upstairs by storm with her one night cabaret extraordinaire. She got to the meat of “Meadowlark” after the sublime “Move On” intro. Her patter was cliché free. She surprised us with a refreshing version of “Shall We Dance”. She brought us to tears with “Bring Him Home”.The band included a bass and saxophonist which made for a level of unsurpassed sophistication for this supper club. The food was mesmerizing starting with the joyfully pulled apart wild salmon avocado appetizer. The gluten free spaghetti with chicken and marinara sauce was a delight. The crowd was pure New York theater aficionado’s transplanted to this North Hollywood venue. The $25.00 cover charge was a mere pittance compared to the entertainment value.
