I was thrilled that Cher was releasing a new cd of Abba songs. I wish that the results were more stirring. Her voice sounds masked except for a few cuts. I wasn’t sure she was singing close enough to the microphone. The arrangements and sound quality feels very vanilla generic. Mamma Mia seems to be the one of the only songs where Cher challenges her voice. The Winner Takes It All makes fine use of her deeper chest tones. The strain in her timbre is fine. Let’s face it even second rate Cher is better than most diva releases.
