This is Ethan Hawke trying his feet on directing a bio pic about an obscure blues country writer singer Blaze Foley. Overlong and meandering due to no one instructing Ethan about the editing process. Yet there are some “moments”. Most of those occur due to Blaze Foley’s girlfriend Rosen played by Alia Shawkat. The scene with Blaze and Rosen at her parents’ home is genuinely showstopping. A sweet ending along with many of the song renderings makes for an acceptable cinema trip.
