I struggled with the Patrick Melrose mini-series on showtime. Benedict Cumberbatch plays such an unlikeable character that it is almost impossible to watch without being disgusted. As each of the five episodes progress you painstakingly discover the reason behind his persona. It is almost worth the trip to appreciate the transformation in the final last hour. His performance will be impossible to beat at this year’s Emmy awards if enough voters see the series. The cathartic and forgiveness are life changing to the character. I haven’t read the novels the series was based on. I suspect they are a revelation.
