This is my third visit to “Spring Awakening”. Of course due to the television series “Rise” my interest level in the show has been through the roof. The complex story and score makes this musical worth repeating viewings. This Cupcake Theater version has a slightly younger cast which makes for a fresh , less polished, innocence that brilliantly works with the sexual/gender themes. The small live band relishes playing the pop rock arrangements. Each actor gets their “moment” with what I now I call classics- “Mama Who Bore Me”, “My Junk”, “The Bitch of Living”, “I Believe”. The barebones set with a few chairs, table and a stairway keep your focus on the topical ideas dealt with-Abortion, abuse, suicide, GLBT, and sex education.
