Since much of the movie takes place outdoor, the glorious ensemble cast wasn’t able to chew the scenery. Some flamboyant acting had to work against the gorgeous setting.  Ann Roth’s costumes are breathtakingly appropriate. Thank goodness for a consistent all-American accent. This adaptation moves like flashes. Comic laughs burst through the dower unrequited love scenario. Soairise Ronan is brilliant as Mina. Elizabeth Moss gets to use her Handmade Tale unhappiness as Masha. Annette Benning adds another quirky mother/actress to her repertoire. A good time for everyone except the characters in the film.
