I wish I could blame Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl for the endless variety rip offs that keep creeping into my life. This novel about a wife with a “past” and her cheating and abusive husband reeks of phony red herrings and unsatisfying twists. Alafair Burke’s writing is o.k. and the read is relatively painless. Her father James Lee Burke is a far superior novelist. I continue to dream of the thrilling prose like Gone Girl to appear in my kindle.
