Chloe Zhao directs the entire cast of nonprofessional actors in The Rider masterfully. The story about cowboy Brady Blackburn who suffers a debilitating head injury from a horse reeks of gut wrenching reality. There is a charismatic quality that pulls you into the plot from the get go. I was mesmerized by the naturalness. The glorious and evocative photography of South Dakota is awe inspiring.
