Chappaquiddick-film

As a confused 17-year-old in 1969 I wasn’t aware about the Ted Kennedy incident. I hardly read the newspaper or watched any news. It was eye opening to watch the film. I might have preferred a documentary rather than feeling the movie wasn’t accurately recreating the accident, drowning, and political repercussions. Although the actors all covered the basics most didn’t give us a deep below the surface gut wrenching moment.  Bruce Dern was a bit over the top as stroke impaired papa Joseph Kennedy. I wasn’t quite sure about the point of the film. Was it just another version of abuse of power? Sexual abuse? Coverups? The director John Curran could have had a stronger point of view. Overall a ok piece of film making that didn’t go far enough.
