Trader Joe’s Poem

Pic from 1st store in Pasadena 1967

Gourmet thrifty food

Sparkling aisles grab my attention

Studying the ingredients

No gluten or soy or garlic

Strolling past the endless choices

Aimless or focused

Hoping for a friendly neighbor

Or congregant

Questioning the ripeness

How to prepare the unimaginable

Trade Joe Millennial checker

He found a sticker

Pressed on the top of the register

A puzzlement to me

Covering the time

Stopping his obsession with time left in his shift

And I thought I was inpatient

Smiling away a goodbye

Loads of hair perked me up

More than the paper cupped coffee giveaway

Meager purchase of .99 card and

Largest banana unfortunately green

Gets me out

Stretches my spindly legs

Checks off my list

Breathing out this poem to you
