The Darkest Hour is showcase for Gary Oldman. He inhabits the roll of Winston Churchill so spectacularly that he becomes unrecognizable. Director Joe Wright along with cinematographer Brono Delbonnel take a dry-done to death- subject matter and create a compelling entertainment. Spot on production design and an excellent supporting cast raises this film above your standard Masterpiece Theater history lesson.
